With The Irishman being hailed as a masterwork from the veteran director, it will be interesting to see how he follows it up. ![]() Reports suggest Scorsese was even considering directing the movie at one stage, but he ultimately opted out of becoming involved, feeling the comic book side of the story wasn't for him. Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, following his rise as a wealthy stock-broker living the high life, to his fall from grace involving crime. Martin Scorsese was also attached to produce Todd Philips' Joker, having previously collaborated with the director on War Dogs. A New York stock broker refuses to cooperate in a large securities fraud case that includes mob infiltration into Wall Street and the corporate banking world. While the topic has certainly inspired lively debate, the director is ultimately more than entitled to his opinion. These statements would prove very controversial, with the filmmaker later penning a New York Times op-ed to further explain his stance.
